Winter Texan “Goes the Extra Mile” for Charities

Vic Spaulding preparing for his 60-mile walk

La Posada Providencia is very fortunate to have good friends who also happen to be compassionate and generous human beings. Recently, we learned about the call to action that one of our friends made to feed the hungry.

Moved by the long lines he saw on TV of people waiting for food because of the pandemic, La Posada friend Vic Spaulding decided to do a three-day, 60-mile walk for food for the hungry. For seven out of the past eight years, Vic has walked for the Susan B. Komen Cancer Foundation. This year he decided to do something for people who are hungry. He said, “there is a huge need our there—we see it on the news all the time.”

On June 24, 25, and 26 Vic walked and made his distance 60-mile goal. Afterward, he commented, “I was sore and tired.” The walk took place in Roseville and St. Paul, MN. He asked that donations be sent directly to a food shelf (pantry) or homeless shelter of your choice or to the list of food pantries and shelters he listed. Included in his list were many in his local Minneapolis-St. Paul area and four in the Harlingen-San Benito area. La Posada was among the latter. That is because Vic and his wife, Mary, are long-time Winter Texan friends.

Vic’s goal was to raise $20,000, which he beat by an additional $4,000! He stated that he realized that a lot of people are struggling now.  He still encouraged any amount. “No amount is too large or too small.” Judging by the response, his call was answered.  An unexpected and delightful response was that several friends and family joined Vic for the walk. This was after his mandatory requirement that anyone joining him had to practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Thank you, Vic, for your spirit and call to action. Thank you for including La Posada in that call.
