Mission

La Posada Providencia strives to satisfy the basic subsistence needs of poor immigrants, asylees and asylum seekers in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and to promote their successful integration into U. S. society.

Our clients are a very vulnerable group of human beings. They are in an unfamiliar environment and face fear, poverty, language barriers, cultural differences, and lack of information concerning their rights and options, all combining to create a sense of powerlessness.  La Posada strives to mitigate this sense of powerlessness by giving clients the voice they need to communicate their goals, thus enabling us to help them move forward with their resettlement.

Our Mission Statement

La Posada Providencia, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence, is a ministry for people in crisis from around the world, who are seeking legal refuge in this country.  The Shelter staff provides a safe and welcoming home, mentors to promote self-sufficiency, cultural integration and imparts values, which witness God’s Providence in our world.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses

yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of
your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless,

tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside

the golden door!”
~ Emma Lazarus
