The Blessing of Helping Hands

Saying Good Bye to Randie Clawson

This past week we said good bye to Randie Clawson, who has been volunteering at
La Posada since January. This year marked her 3rd year of volunteering at La Posada. She spent most of her time teaching ESL and helping Sister Thérèse in the classroom, but also helped at our Hands & Hearts and Chalupa fundraisers, and performed some clerical work to help Client Coordinator Monica Rasmussen with clients.

Thank you, Randie for another wonderful visit. You are truly a blessing to all
you encounter.

Welcoming Returning Volunteers

This past week, a wonderful and energetic group of volunteers from Governors State University in Chicago, Il. visited for 4 days. They helped to assemble new bunk beds for the men’s residence and new outdoor benches and picnic tables. They also pulled weeds and spent time playing soccer with the children.

This is the second year we have received volunteers from Governors State University. Professor Daniel Cortese, Ph.D. teaches sociology at the university and has lead each group of students. He is also a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Chicago, a church that has an established mission relationship with La Posada.

As we continued to thank the group for all they were doing, they kept telling us how happy they were to be able to do something for our cause and for the experience of learning the point of view of the immigrant – how they are trying to start a new life.

We are so appreciative of the help provided to us by this wonderful group of students.

Spreading the Word Far and Wide

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to showcase the La Posada Ministry in St. Louis, Mo. For years, La Posada has been the beneficiary of a tithing program supported by St. Louis parish, Mary, Mother of the Church. Over the weekend, the parish hosted a ministry festival for those ministries benefiting from the program. After all Masses, parishioners visited with each ministry representative to learn about their respective organizations. It provided a wonderful opportunity to spread the
La Posada story.

We remain grateful to this wonderful parish for their faithful support.
