La Posada Visitor Returns With Gifts For Clients

We are grateful for visitors who come to La Posada Providencia to learn about our ministry and meet the people we serve.  Often, after touring our facility, groups leave wanting to do more for the people they have just met at our shelter. This is a story about one such visit.

Annie Nolte-Henning from Alight recently paid La Posada a visit. Alight, formerly the American Refugee Committee is “the same organization with the same people doing the same critical work – providing health care and clean water, shelter, protection, and economic opportunity to more than 3.5 million people in 17 countries each year.”

According to their website: https://wearealight.org/about/, “But, in solidarity with the people we serve who are too often defined by a single dark moment in their lives, we’re dropping the label ‘refugee.’ Alight sees and helps every person make meaningful change in the world – from displaced and marginalized communities in Africa, Asia, and the Americas to…anyone, anywhere.” Alight’s purpose is to “inspire and unleash the abundance in every person.”

La Posada welcomed Annie and invited her to stay for lunch. By sharing a meal with us, she was able to meet our clients and learn about their journeys.  She learned that for many, La Posada is the first stop after immigration detention before continuing on their journey to reach family or friends and resettle.  Annie wanted to know about the items needed for their journey on.  The clients openly shared their needs.  As the meal ended, Annie was inspired with a mission to gather the needed items.

Annie returned to La Posada with a generous donation for all the clients – English/Spanish dictionaries, ChapStick, and backpacks are just a few of the items she brought to help our clients.

Thank you Annie, for helping support our clients. In addition, thank you, Alight! We wish you well with your very meaningful work.
