A New Beginning is at Your Fingertips

The most touching and memorable event for our clients’ first Christmas experience in the U.S. has typically been their active participation in the Mexican tradition of “las posadas” (the inns): a re-enactment of the Biblical journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for shelter in Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus.

The tradition of giving “posada” to a family in need is not only a re-enactment that is celebrated each December at La Posada, but rather it is the cornerstone of  La Posada’s mission.

Each year, we welcome hundreds of vulnerable women and families who are waiting for the birth of a child. As with Mary and Joseph, our clients’ needs are dire, yet basic – safe shelter. While their cultures and languages can vary significantly, they are all fleeing their native lands for the same reason – to seek safety for their children, away  from the violence and oppression that threatened their lives every day.

La Posada has provided shelter and given hope to thousands of women and families in the past 26 years.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals like you, we can continue giving “posada” to the many clients we welcome each year.

Here is how your gift can change the lives of the men, women and families served by La Posada:

  • $15 – Can help clients studying U.S. government and the English language with the purchase of notebooks, worksheets, writing supplies, and computer programs.
  • $20 – Can help clients with essential supplies as they travel to their resettlement destination. Many of our clients arrive with nothing; La Posada provides them throw blankets, sweaters, jackets, food, toiletries and a bag in which to carry all these items. For mothers with babies, La Posada adds diapers and baby formula.
  • $35 – Can help La Posada afford gasoline to drive our program van 60+ miles daily, transporting clients to and from health care, legal-aid, and social services appointments.
  • $200 – Can help La Posada afford a week’s worth of food for the dozens of clients staying at our shelter each week. That’s three meals per day.
