Sister Nora Ruiz arrived at La Posada Providencia in mid-September. Sister Nora is in the formation process with the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate (SHSp) in San Antonio, Texas. The Sisters selected La Posada Providencia as her first ministry under the mentorship of Sisters Thérèse Cunningham and Dympna Clarke. Remarkably, this was not the first time Sister Nora had visited La Posada.
As a youth minister for nine years at Saint Brigid Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas Sister Nora regularly attended field trips to La Posada. In a recent interview, she recalls La Posada as a beautiful ministry she longed to be a part of. She never thought more than a decade later she would be commencing her apostolic year (second year of discernment), with the organization. Sister Nora referenced Proverbs 20-24, “The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?” – and said she has never felt so complete in her work and is amazed how well every piece of her life has connected to this time.
Staff at La Posada say Sister Nora brings so many gifts to the organization. She is smart, kind, and creative. La Posada is especially grateful for the efforts she puts into planning fun activities for our shelter guests. Special activities like fishing, playing games, bike riding, and BBQ days serve as a great pastime for many deserving guests. We admire her ability to make others feel welcomed and to open meaningful conversations to restore human dignity. Sister Nora embodies the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate through her compassionate presence at La Posada. Her stay is expected to last through December. We know she will leave us with a lasting impression just as she will forever carry a piece of La Posada in her heart.
