Lord of Divine Mercy Catholic Church Visits La Posada
Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016
Lord of Divine Mercy Catholic Church volunteers pose in front of La Posada Providencia after sharing a meal with clients, staff and volunteers and dropping off a donation of clothing and supplies for the shelter.
Two weeks ago, La Posada received a call from Lord of Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Brownsville–the newest parish in the Diocese of Brownsville. They read about us in the Valley Catholic, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Brownsville, and wished to visit us to learn more about our shelter and provide a lunch meal for our clients and staff.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, a white, 34-passenger bus arrived at 11:30 a.m. Fourteen ladies emerged and began unloading the bus with kettles of hot Mexican rice, beans, chicken fajitas and salads, delicious desserts, and a large cooler filled with bottled water and soft drinks. After all the delicious food was unloaded, the ladies then brought out bundles of clothing and shelter supplies, ranging from soap and tooth paste to paper products.
Before their arrival, clients and staff set up tables and chairs in the carport so there was ample room for an outdoor picnic lunch with clients, visitors and staff.
“We are very grateful for the gifts our wonderful visitors from Lord of Divine Mercy brought,” said Sister Zita Telkamp, CDP. “Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying the delicious lunch and each other’s company. It was a wonderful time making new friends, both for them and for us!”
After the meal was finished, our visitors received a tour of our shelter before bidding us good-bye and promising to return again.
Thank you Lord of Divine Mercy Catholic Church for your gifts and the lovely visit!
