COVID-19 has changed the way the world is wired. Many groups and organization are operating outside the box in order to perform normal tasks due to social distancing. Because of the pandemic, La Posada has restricted access to the public since March. However, that has not changed our focus on client safety, empowerment, and education. These are still at the forefront of our mission.
Volunteering plays a large part in client education, and volunteers have been a crucial part of daily operations at the shelter for many years. Offering virtual volunteering opportunities is a great way for clients to connect with volunteers and for volunteers to stay engaged with the shelter.
La Posada is introducing virtual ESL (English as a Second Language) classes through Zoom as a unique and exciting way to work with clients. This is unlike anything we ever attempted to do before. It is a great opportunity for volunteers to work with clients remotely – volunteers can connect from anywhere in the world. We ask volunteers to apply for this opportunity using the link provided. After successfully completing the application and review process, volunteers will receive a virtual training from the Development staff on the LPP volunteer handbook how to use Zoom, and how scheduling classes works.
La Posada staff are excited to work with volunteers through this fun and interactive virtual opportunity and we are thankful for the impact the volunteers have on the lives of clients and staff.
