Once becoming a volunteer with La Posada, you also become part of our family. We value our volunteers and could not accomplish what we do without the incredible help and perspective they bring. When Pastor Olga Gonzalez and her husband, Andres Alexis Gonzalez arrived at La Posada from Lyndonville, New York to volunteer their time, they captivated the hearts of many with their dedication to serving.
In a recent interview, Pastor Olga stated she found La Posada through United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM). Although she was provided a few organizations to choose from, she was immediately attracted to La Posada because of the opportunity to serve migrants along the Texas Border—a cause she feels passionate for.
Pastor Olga and Andres were a blessing for their compassionate flexibility and willingness to serve in many areas within the shelter. Olga helped with housekeeping, case management, and transportation. Andres partnered with our Facilities Coordinator, George de Santos, and helped with critical maintenance and repairs. Olga shared what was particularly special about their volunteer experience was meeting the guests served at La Posada and witnessing the impact of our mission. She especially admired the love, passion, and respect all the staff at La Posada demonstrated in their work.
After a week of serving at La Posada, Pastor Olga and Andres were recognized for their volunteerism with a special lunch among staff, guests, and other volunteers. Client Mentor, Sister Thérèse Cunningham, blessed their departure with Psalm 103:1-2 in praise of God’s divine goodness.
We remain grateful for the privilege to receive volunteers from all over the United States and witness how God works through people.
