When it comes to helping others in need, help can come in all ages and sizes. Last week, Mrs. Riojas’ 3rd grade class from Garza Elementary in Alamo, Texas, exemplified this by visiting La Posada and making a very special donation.
This past school year, the 3rd grade students have been learning about compassion. After reading about La Posada in the newspaper, they decided to collect and donate items to our shelter as part of their class project.
“It’s great to teach them about compassion in class,” said Mrs. Riojas. “At La Posada they were able to see what it is to be compassionate firsthand.”
After delivering their donation, the students received a tour of the shelter. They had the opportunity to learn about our services, meet clients, and visit the classroom where they listened to clients sing, “This Little Light of Mine.”
“It’s so nice and encouraging to see such a young group of students interested in the world and who are so moved to help others,” said Adriana Garcia, La Posada’s volunteer coordinator.
The student’s donation included books and puzzles for the classroom, shoes, clothes, and baby food for our youngest clients.
We graciously thank Mrs. Riojas and her 3rd grade students for their generosity and compassion. Whether you lend a hand at the shelter, or make a donation, you are helping to change someone’s life.
