On Saturday, September 17, Sister Zita returned from her grocery shopping trip to a wonderful surprise! Three gentlemen –Sgt. Jim Poe (Scoutmaster), Robert Pearson and his assistant, Gabriel Hernandez – were putting the finishing touches on a lovely swing set, a coffee table and two benches built for La Posada.

Robert is a senior atMarine Military Academy in Harlingen,Texas. He chose La Posada to receive one of his final projects that will earn him an Eagle Scout Award.

Robert raised $350 on his own to purchase a swing set kit. Together with his assistant, fellow senior Gabriel, and under the supervision of Sgt. Jim, the project was finished and delivered to us within a few weeks from when the project started. The benches were added to the project by Sgt. Jim, who had some “extra boards” in his garage. Last year, Sgt. Jim and an aspiring Eagle Scout, Patrick Church, painted the men’s dormitory, Casa Guillermo, with paint and bracket hooks they provided.

We are grateful to Sgt. Jim, Robert and Gabriel for another wonderful surprise this year! We know our clients will enjoy spending time relaxing as they enjoy Robert’s project for years to come.
