Deaconess Cindy Andrade Johnson has been working with La Posada Providencia as a volunteer consultant since the Fall of 2020. Cindy has been an educator for approximately 30 years. She prioritizes and emphasizes cultural competency through education, and she works with migrants all over the United States, the border, and Mexico. She has been working weekly in the migrant camp across the border in Matamoros, Mexico bringing the migrants medicine and communicating with them.
Cindy chose to work with La Posada because she says that La Posada is an excellent place that can be used as a model to show how asylum seekers and migrants should be treated: justly and with compassion. Cindy shares that working at La Posada allows her to learn from her migrant brothers and sisters. Learning from migrants enables one to adjust their models of thinking from the information and teachings one learns from them.
La Posada gives Cindy hope and is an oasis for her. She says that it is a place where she prays that guests get a little bit of respite. Cindy’s goal is to assist migrants and prepare them for the new experiences and journeys on which they will be embarking. She says that she wants to give them skills and tools while making the guests feel welcome. To Cindy, La Posada is a stepping stone for migrants.
La Posada is thankful to work with Deaconess Cindy Andrade Johnson. Thank you, Cindy!
