We are blessed at La Posada to have active volunteers who visit us each week. We want to introduce you to just some of the wonderful people who live the Gospel mandate to “welcome the stranger” by spending time with us at La Posada.
After a life-long career as a teacher, Mary from Port Mansfield, Texas, tutors clients in English as a Second Language (ESL) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Psychologist Margie (photo) also tutors clients in ESL on Wednesdays and Fridays. In her own words, Marge moved to “beautiful San Benito” from Colorado with her husband a couple years ago.
Marge isn’t the only volunteer on Fridays. We are also blessed to have former client Ramon fromVenezuela, who is now bilingual. Being a former client gives him an added advantage when tutoring clients in ESL. Malena has Fridays free to do what she loves – volunteering at La Posada. Malena helps with doing whatever needs to be done on any given Friday, from running important documents to immigration attorneys to helping sell tickets for our recent quilt drawing.
During the summer, high school senior Oscar started doing yard work every Saturday at La Posada. Now that school has started, Oscar invites several friends to join him on Saturdays. We have also been blessed to have former Program Director Margaret Mertens, CDP filling in for Sister Zita during her brief respite.
We thank our devoted volunteers for making Providence visible as they touch the lives of our clients with their generous gifts of time and talent.
