For over 20 years, Casa Guillermo has functioned as an essential part of La Posada, the small building housing hundreds of refugees and creating invaluable memories within its walls. Recalling the fond memories is Angel, an employee of La Posada whose first encounter with the shelter was as a client nearly a decade ago. Angel’s first home in the U.S. was Casa Guillermo, where he spent several months settling into the environment of a new country and was welcomed by the caring community of LaPosada. Angel slept in the sitting room- due to the previously limited space–where many would gather and spend quality time together. After a brief move to Indianapolis, Angel decided to come back to La Posada, working as a volunteer while continuing to live in the trusty home of Casa Guillermo.
Casa Guillermo’s sitting room was a shared space where guests were able to bond and spend time together watching TV, sharing stories, teaching each other to use technology, and helping with chores. This place of gathering held, and still holds, a significant meaning to all those who have spent time there, including Angel, whose appreciation for La Posada stems from his early days in Casa Guillermo.
On November 9th, 2022, Casa Guillermo was leveled down to make room for the development of a new building, allowing many more to experience the impact of La Posada. We are so grateful for the role Casa Guillermo held. We will always carry its history and influence with us as La Posada enters a new era, preserving the essence of what made Casa Guillermo special as we continue creating memories and providing a home for thousands more. Thank you, Casa Guillermo.
