Many asylum seekers and refugees travel to the United States Border carrying the memory of painful experiences and stories. The journey to the border can be dangerous, and some fail to reach their final destination. La Posada Providencia recently witnessed both a heartbreaking story and one of joy occurring within the same family.
A mother, her three children, and her cousin were traveling to the United States from Colombia to seek asylum. They also planned to join two relatives already living here. At some point during the journey, the mother and her oldest daughter suddenly went missing. To this day, their whereabouts are unknown. Her cousin and the two youngest children were taken into custody by the Panamanian government, and the children were placed in United States custody. After working with United States attorneys, the two relatives living in the United States traveled to La Posada for their joyful reunification with these two children.
We pray for the healing of this family’s loss and that they find peace from the loving memories they will never lose. We pray that they also regain hope for achieving a brighter future.
