(SAN BENITO, Texas) Just like families all across the country, La Posada has been getting ready for back-to-school. These past weeks, La Posada Providencia’s staff has been working with the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District to enroll four of our client’s children. This is the third time since the fall 2014 that some of our youngest, long-term clients have been enrolled in the local school system. On two previous occasions, one in November 2014, and most recently in March 2015, five children, ranging in the ages of 5 to 10, were enrolled in the local elementary schools while their families resided at our shelter.
“I am very happy that my kids are able to start school this year like they’re scheduled to,” said Patricia, the mother of the four children. “We are all very grateful and excited for this opportunity.”
The children, ranging from ages 4 to 16, will be attending Veteran Memorial Academy; Berta Cabaza Middle School; and Sullivan Elementary School. In preparation for the first day of school, La Posada’s staff has taken the family shopping for school supplies, clothes and other necessary supplies needed to start the school year.
“Our staff and clients are very grateful to San Benito CISD for once again working with us to enroll our client’s children in school,” said Program Director, Sister Zita Telkamp, CDP. “The children are very excited to start the new school year next Monday like all the other children in San Benito.”
Thank you, San Benito CISD, for your assistance and help in providing the gift of hope and learning to our youngest clients.
