(San Benito, Texas) La Posada Providencia is proud to announce it has been selected as recipient of a $25,000 grant from the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation.

La Posada provides safe shelter to poor immigrants, asylees and asylum seekers in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, serving more than 7,000 clients from around the world since 1989.

“We are truly grateful to the Kenedy Foundation for their generous grant,” said La Posada Program Director Sister Zita Telkamp, CDP. “With the ever increasing number of immigrants we welcome daily, the grant is a tremendous help in making God’s Providence visible to the many lives we touch here at La Posada.”

The funds will be divided as follows:

• $5,000 to support the purchase of food for clients
• $9,000 to repave the shelter’s driveway and
• $11,000 for operational support.

“With this generous grant, we will be able to work on some much-needed projects,” Sister Zita said. “We will be able provide food to clients who haven’t had a real meal in weeks or months. We will be able to keep the water running for refreshing showers and laundering clothes that have been worn for weeks without a change.

“Thanks to the Kenedy Memorial Foundation’s kindness, La Posada can continue to be a healthy, welcoming place for all our clients.”
